Kaarin, why Maitri Counseling for the Evolving Soul?
Maitri is a Sanskrit word that has several meanings, including unconditional acceptance and love, loving-kindness toward self. From the time of conception until we take our final breath, we are evolving in all our wonderous humanness. Loving-kindness toward self allows us to unconditionally accept our own humanness, however that looks. So often we are able to extend compassion to others, yet we harshly judge and shame ourselves. I chose the word Maitri because I believe that healing comes through unconditional acceptance.
My Education
I earned a Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology; emphasis in Professional Clinical Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy and Depth Psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute in Santa Barbara, California. Post-graduate work included a Certificate in Interpersonal Neurobiology from Portland State University’s Graduate School of Education, as well as a Certificate in Gerontology from the University of Washington. Prior to this, I obtained a Bachelor of Liberal Arts, with an emphasis in Integrated Psychology: Mind and Body Well Being from Antioch University Seattle.
A Personal Note
Family, friends and self-care are very important to me. I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, attending my grandson’s football games (I am a huge fan), watching good movies, cuddling with our Australian Labradoodle, taking quiet walks, and losing myself in my avocations—gardening and photography.
